KARACHI: A case was registered under the sections of insulting the religious beliefs of an employee of a mining company, Abdul Salam aka Abu Dawood, for allegedly insulting, humiliating and torturing a young Hindu boy, Mukesh Bheel, and hurting his religious sentiments.
The First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the Mithi Police Station, Thar, under Sections 295-A and 298 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of SHO Mohammad Soomar, on behalf of the State of Pakistan. Senior Superintendent of Police Tharparkar Hassan Sardar Niazi, told the media that a special police team during the raids arrested Abdul Salam aka Abu Dawood from Khoski town of Badin district when he was trying to escape.
SSP Niazi said nobody would be allowed to vitiate the communal harmony of Thar. He said police officers were directed to arrest the accused after the civil society activists, including the leaders of Pakistan Hindu Council, reacted strongly and demanded his early arrest besides a legal action. SSP Niazi concluded that sections in the FIR were included on the directions of the high-ups of the Sindh government as per the demands of the notables of the Hindu community.
According to Police sources, the accused was arrested after the Sindh government, including Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, took strong notice of the humiliation of a Hindu boy and directed the DIG Mirpurkhas region to take immediate action.
