One dies of COVID-19 from Pindi, 409 new cases

Rawalpindi : Another patient suffering from coronavirus illness, COVID-19 belonging to Rawalpindi district died of the illness in the last 24 hours while as many as 409 new patients have been tested positive from Islamabad Capital Territory and Rawalpindi district which is the highest number of cases reported in a day from the twin cities since the fourth wave hit the population in the region.

It is worth mentioning here that over 400 patients have been diagnosed with COVID-19 from the region in a day after May 7 this year. To date, the virus has claimed a total of 1,817 lives from ICT and Rawalpindi district while as many as 112,697 patients have so far been tested positive from the region.

It is important that over 11.09 per cent of the total patients so far reported from Pakistan since the advent of coronavirus are residents of the twin cities that contain less than 3.5 per cent of the country’s population.

It is alarming that the positivity rate of COVID-19 from the region has been around eight per cent as in the last 24 hours, it has been recorded as 8.09 per cent in Rawalpindi from where as many as 141 patients were tested positive against 1,742 tests.

Data collected by ‘The News’ on Wednesday reveals that a total of 1021 patients have so far died of COVID-19 from Rawalpindi district while the virus has so far claimed as many as 796 lives from the federal capital.

According to details, the virus claimed one life from Rawalpindi district in the last 24 hours while confirmation of 130 new cases from the district took the tally to 26,471. To date, a total of 24,668 patients have recovered from the illness while the number of active cases of the disease from the district has reached 782 on Wednesday.

As many as 73 patients were hospitalized in the district on Wednesday while the number of confirmed patients in home isolation was 709.

On the other hand, the virus did not claim any life from ICT in the last 24 hours from where another 279 patients were tested positive for COVID-19 taking the tally to 86,226 of which 82,848 patients had recovered. The number of active cases from the federal capital jumped to 2,582 on Wednesday after the addition of 152 active cases to the existing pool.
