3 corona deaths, 343 cases from twin cities
Rawalpindi:Over 340 patients have been tested positive for coronavirus illness, COVID-19 from Islamabad Capital Territory and Rawalpindi district in a day after May 9 showing the spread of the virus is getting much faster while the virus has claimed another three lives from the region.
After confirmation of 343 COVID-19 cases from the region, the total number of patients so far reported from the twin cities crossed the figure of 112,000 on Monday of which 1,810 patients have lost their lives due to the illness.
It is worth mentioning here that a significant proportion of the population that has left the twin cities to spend Eid ul Azha in their native towns is back in the region as almost all public and private sector offices received full attendance on Monday after Eid holidays.
Many experts believe that the number of patients may go up in the coming days particularly after reopening of educational institutions in the beginning of August.
Data collected by ‘The News’ on Monday reveals that another two patients died of COVID-19 from Rawalpindi district in the last 24 hours taking death toll from the district to 1017 while one patient died of COVID-19 from the federal capital in the last 24 hours that has taken death toll from ICT to 793.
In the last 24 hours, as many as 261 patients have been tested positive for COVID-19 from ICT taking the total number of confirmed patients so far reported from the federal capital to 85,780 of which 82,628 patients have recovered. The number of active cases from the federal capital has jumped to 2,359 on Monday after addition of 111 active cases to the existing pool.
Meanwhile, another 82 patients have been tested positive for the illness from Rawalpindi district in the last 24 hours that has taken tally to 26,238 of which 24,531 patients have so far recovered.
On Monday, the number of active cases from the district jumped to 690 of which 65 patients were undergoing treatment at the healthcare facilities in the district while 625 were in home isolation.
