Security upgraded in KP after recent attacks on police
PESHAWAR: Police across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been alerted after the attacks on cops and other law- enforcement agencies in different parts of the province in the past several days.
It was learnt that police have been directed to ensure security to foreigners, especially Chinese nationals in different parts of the province.
In some areas, foreigners have been issued security advisory, urging upon them to take necessary measures for the security of their homes and offices.
The force has taken measures to maintain law and order during and after Eidul Azha in the wake of a few recent incidents. Apart from a number of terror incidents in the erstwhile Fata, police were targeted in different parts of other districts in the last few days.
A few days ago, a convoy headed by a deputy superintendent of police was targeted by terrorists with an improvised explosive device. It damaged the vehicle but did not result in any casualty. A day later another vehicle was targeted with a hand grenade in Mardan. A police constable Ibrar Khan was martyred in the attack.
Two policemen, Shakir and Said Raza, were martyred in Katlang sub-division of the Mardan district last month while performing the duty to protect polio vaccination teams.
In Peshawar, a constable of the Counter-Terrorism Department, Safdar Khan, was martyred when armed men opened fire on him near the Motorway. Police are investigating to find out if the incident was linked to target-killing or there were other factors as well.
There were reports that some development has been made in the case.
The same day, a police constable allegedly shot dead his two senior colleagues during duty at the Dauranpur Quarantine Centre.
An official said constable Abbas opened fire on his two seniors, Sub-Inspector Gul Rahman and Head Constable Imran when they were performing duty at the centre.
The police officials have been directed to stay alert as well as check the level of alertness of those deployed at check posts and other public places.
They were asked to ensure foolproof security to worship places, public places and trade centres during and after Eid. The police force was directed to increase patrolling to maintain law and order.
