Sindh government spokesman Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Tuesday inaugurated a public park named after the late Sikandar Sanam, a renowned comedian from Karachi, in District Korangi.

Addressing the media persons on the occasion, Wahab expressed pleasure that the newly built park has been named after Sanam, who was a very good stage artist belonging to the city. He also appreciated the fact that the park is in the midst of a residential neighbourhood and comprises both old trees and freshly planted saplings.

He commended the efforts of the District Korangi deputy commissioner and the Korangi District Municipal Corporation (DMC) for adopting a mechanism for using the area’s wastewater to fulfil the park’s watering needs.

He said that such a mechanism for using wastewater to increase Karachi’s green cover should be adopted by all the municipal agencies of the city.

He also said people of the neighbourhood should be engaged by the deputy commissioner to maintain the park. “A lot of improvement will happen in this city when the people look after their neighbourhood just like they look after their own homes.”

He added that the provincial government has been spending from its own financial resources to complete major development projects in Karachi, while the DMCs have been tasked with smaller development projects in the city.

Wahab said the government recently built 8,000 Road, 12,000 Road, No. 2½ Bridge, No. 5 Bridge and Fishermen Roundabout in District Korangi. He said the municipal agencies of Karachi have also done commendable work in the past eight or nine months. “We have done all this work because we believe in doing public service.”

He appealed to the public to especially focus on sanitation in their respective neighbourhoods while sacrificing animals on Eidul Azha. He said the municipal authorities of the city have made ample arrangements to ensure sanitation during the religious festival.
