Covid kills 16 more, infects another 1,091 in Sindh

Sixteen more people have died due to Covid-19 and 1,091 others have tested positive for the disease during the past 24 hours in Sindh, with the death toll due to the viral coronavirus infection reaching 5,599 in the province.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said in his daily situation report on the health emergency on Saturday that 16,929 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, resulting in 1,091 people, or 6.4 per cent of those who were screened, being diagnosed with Covid-19.

The provincial government has so far conducted 4,662,921 tests, which have resulted in 346,343 positive cases, which means that 7.4 per cent of those screened have been found to be infected, he added.

Shah said that after the latest deaths, the rate of the diagnosed people who have lost their fight with Covid-19 stands at two per cent in Sindh.

He said that 23,333 people across the province are currently infected: 22,511 are in self-isolation at home, 56 at isolation centres and 766 at hospitals, while 704 patients are in critical condition, of whom 51 are on life support.

He added that 551 more people have recovered during the past 24 hours, increasing the number of cured patients to 317,411, which shows the recovery rate to be 91.6 per cent. The CM said that out of the 1,091 fresh cases of Sindh, 834 (or over 76 per cent) have been reported in Karachi Division: 249 of the city’s new patients are from District East, 195 from District Central, 152 from District South, 113 from District Korangi, 82 from District Malir and 43 from District West.

As for the other districts of the province, Sukkur has reported 33 new cases, Hyderabad 29, Thatta 25, Mirpurkhas 20, Shaheed Benazirabad 19, Badin 17, Tharparkar 14, Jamshoro 12, Dadu 11, Sujawal nine, Matiari eight, Umerkot seven, Tando Allahyar five, Sanghar, Kashmore and Larkana two each, and Naushehroferoze and Shikarpur one each, he added.
