A family’s outlook on eating and exercise can play a significant role in determining a child’s weight and overall health. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics advises:
Today’s Health Tips
* Don’t force your child to eat healthy food, as this may make the child more resistant. Don’t identify foods as bad or good, and avoid using food as a reward.
* Don’t exert excessive control over your child’s food or exercise.
* Teach your child how to choose healthy foods and appropriate portions.
* Don’t push a child to eat all food on the plate. Teach the child to listen to his or her body, and to stop eating when full.
* Encourage exercise, but don’t force it. Make it a fun family affair.
