Another 4 die of COVID-19, 140 cases from twin cities

Islamabad : A consistent increase in number of coronavirus illness, COVID-19 cases being registered from Islamabad Capital Territory and Rawalpindi district has made the situation much alarming as in the last 24 hours, another 140 patients have been tested positive for the infection that is the highest number of cases reported in a day from the twin cities after May 30 this year.

The virus claimed four more lives from the twin cities in the last 24 hours that is the highest number of deaths caused by COVID-19 in the region in a day in the last one month.

Data collected by ‘The News’ on Wednesday reveals that the virus claimed another life from ICT in the last 24 hours taking death toll from the federal capital to 781 while three more patients died of COVID-19 from Rawalpindi district in the last 24 hours taking death toll from the district to 998.

Confirmation of 140 new cases took tally from the region to 108,148 of which 1,779 patients had lost their lives. It is important that the number of cases being tested positive from the region has been showing a tremendous upward trend for the last one week. The positivity rate of COVID-19 has already jumped to around three per cent in the region.

In the last 24 hours, another 107 patients have been tested positive from ICT and 33 from Rawalpindi district. To date, a total of 83,155 patients have been confirmed positive for COVID-19 from ICT of which 81,152 have recovered. On Wednesday, the number of active cases from the federal capital jumped to 1,222 after addition of 77 active cases to the existing pool in the last 24 hours.
