85 COVID-19 cases, no death from twin cities
Islamabad: The number of patients being tested positive for coronavirus illness, COVID-19 from Islamabad Capital Territory and Rawalpindi district continued to register an upward trend as in the last 24 hours, another 85 patients were tested positive for the infection from the twin cities though the virus claimed no life from the region.
Data collected by ‘The News’ on Saturday reveals that in the last 24 hours, the positivity rate of COVID-19 in the federal capital has been recorded as 2.97 per cent that is more than three times to the weekly positivity rate of the infection recorded in ICT in the previous week, from June 21 to 27.
It is alarming that both the number of confirmed cases and the number of active cases from the twin cities are on a sharp increase for the last three days. As many as 260 new cases have been reported from ICT and Rawalpindi district in the last 72 hours. The number of active cases from the region was 1,077 on June 30 that jumped to 1,216 on Saturday.
We are monitoring the situation after witnessing a significant rise in number of confirmed cases from ICT in the last three days and trying to find out reasons behind it, said District Health Officer ICT Dr. Muhammad Zaeem Zia while talking to ‘The News’ on Saturday.
He said the most important thing at the time is to convince people to continue to follow SOPs properly and get them vaccinated against the infection.
In the last 24 hours, as many as 66 new patients have been tested positive from ICT taking tally to 82,845 of which 779 patients have lost their lives due to COVID-19. To date, a total of 81014 patients from ICT have recovered.
The number of active cases of coronavirus illness from the federal capital has been recorded as 1,052 after addition of 30 active cases to the existing pool.
On the other hand, 19 new patients have been tested positive from Rawalpindi district in the last 24 hours taking tally to 24,876 of which 992 patients have lost their lives while 23,718 patients have recovered.
After addition of 12 active cases to the existing pool in the last 24 hours, the number of active cases from the district has jumped to 164 on Saturday that was 126 three days back. On Saturday, as many as 26 confirmed patients from the district were undergoing treatment at the healthcare facilities in town while 138 patients were in home isolation.
