Islamabad: The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) has organized a training workshop for young kids in which they were trained about how to make seeds balls and use them to enhance tree cover in the capital city.

Over two dozens of young kids from different schools attended the workshop that comprised briefing and practical training about making of seed balls.

The details provided by IWMB stated indigenous tree seeds ‘Amaltas’ were used to make seeds balls in the training workshop. The Golden Shower Tree, or the Amaltas, presents an exciting view when its delicate yellow flowers sway in the gentle breeze during the summer season.

The Seeds Ball campaign was launched in July 2018 and people from different segments of the society including media were invited to the most visited trails including trail three, five and six of the Margallah hills to promote this joint initiative of IWMB and the local authorities.

Another campaign ‘let’s plant a tree’ was also launched at the same time and it also gained momentum and motivated the masses to play their role for a common cause.

An official said “Seed balls drive launched couple of years ago in Islamabad was aimed at increasing tree cover in the city. Now people from all walks of life are becoming part of this campaign.’

“The children are future builders of the nation so it is necessary to make them part of this campaign that is directly related to the protection and preservation of the natural environment,” he said.

He said “The children must come to know that the survival of this planet earth depends on protection of natural environment and when they would keep it in their mind then they would play their due role in this respect.”
