Saving tourism

This refers to the article ‘Kurmat valley: the looming crisis’ (July 01). The environmental threat to this beautiful valley needs to be addressed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government at the earliest. The authorities should also take notice of the problems that are being faced by thousands of tourists who visit tourist resorts in Azad Kashmir, Kaghan and Swat. Usually, following massive landslides, these areas witness severe traffic jams due to which families remain stuck for long hours.

There are also complaints of substandard services at different hotels. Jeeps plying on dilapidated roads are uncomfortable for travelling. Also, there is hardly any arrangement for garbage disposal. The government should act to save the tourism industry and tourist resorts from further devastation.
