NAB chief directs all regional bureaus‘Utilise all resources for concluding white-collar mega corruption cases’

ISLAMABAD: Chairman National Accountability Bureau's Chairman Justice (R) Javed Iqbal has directed all regional bureaus of NAB to utilise all available resources for concluding white-collar mega corruption cases as per law.

“Out of 179 mega corruption cases, 63 such cases have been concluded by various accountability courts due to vigorous prosecution of NAB whereas 95 mega corruption cases are still under trial in different accountability courts and early hearing pleas are being filed in the respected accountability courts as per law,” he said in a direction to all regional bureaus of the NAB.

Chairman NAB Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal said some 1,272 corruption references having an accumulated sum of Rs1,302 billion are under trial in different accountability courts. Petitions of early hearing of cases are being filed in relevant accountability courts. He said NAB has accorded approval of conducting 1,681 complaint verifications, 1,326 inquiries and 496 investigations while a sum of Rs323 billion has been recovered directly and indirectly and deposited in the national exchequer.

Since its inception, he said the NAB has recovered Rs814 billion, received 487,964 complaints, 15,930 complaint verifications, 10,041 inquiries, 4,598 investigations, besides filing 3,682 references in different accountability courts.

He said the NAB has introduced a new concept of the Combine Investigation Team (CIT) in order to benefit from the experience and collective wisdom of senior supervisory officers, a system of CIT comprising director, additional director, investigation officer, legal counsel, financial and land revenue experts.

He said the NAB always accords high priority for capacity building of its investigation officers and prosecutors on a regular basis on modern lines as training is a continuous process which is an effective tool for improvement and maintaining the quality of investigation officers and prosecutors.
