One death, 31 new COVID cases in Islamabad

Rawalpindi : Coronavirus illness, COVID-19 has claimed one more life from Islamabad Capital Territory in the last 24 hours taking the death toll from the federal capital to 776 while a total of 31 new patients have been reported positive for the illness from ICT and Rawalpindi district taking the tally from the region to 107,270 on Saturday.

It is important that the death of a patient from ICT has been reported after six days while in the last one week, less than 300 patients have been reported from the twin cities showing the third wave of the outbreak has already started losing intensity.

The number of active cases from the federal capital was recorded as 995 on Saturday and it happened for the first time in 2021 that the number of active cases dropped down to below 1,000. Earlier, less than 1,000 active cases were present in ICT on October 14, 2020. Data collected by ‘The News’ reveals that around 1.3 million individuals in the twin cities have so far been vaccinated against COVID-19. In the Rawalpindi district alone, as many as 27,349 persons have been administered COVID-19 vaccine in the last two days.According to In-charge District COVID-19 Cell Rawalpindi Dr Hafiz Jawad Zahid, a total of 661,859 persons have so far been vaccinated against the infection including 63,1055 individuals from the general public and 30,804 healthcare workers.

It is worth mentioning that to date, a total of 1768 patients belonging to ICT and Rawalpindi district have lost their lives due to the illness. No COVID-19 was reported from Rawalpindi in the last 24 hours though 992 patients from the district had already died of the infection.

Another five patients belonging to the district have been tested positive in the last 24 hours taking the tally to 24,742 of which 23,599 patients have recovered.

According to Dr Jawad, a total of 13 confirmed patients were undergoing treatment at the healthcare facilities in town while 138 patients were in home isolation on Saturday.

Meanwhile, 26 new patients have been reported positive for COVID-19 from ICT that has taken the total number of patients so far tested positive from the federal capital to 82,528 of which 80,757 patients have recovered from coronavirus illness.
