Continuing its drive against illegal and unsafe power connections in the city, the K-Electric (KE) disconnected power supply to eight generators in six different locations of the Liaquatabad area on Sunday.
According to a statement issued by the power utility, more than 1,750 residential and commercial buildings were being powered through illegal installations of 75 KVA to 150 KVA generators in Block 3, 4, 10, Quwatul Islam Colony and Nairang commercial zones in Liaquatabad.
Similarly, during a raid in Landhi, a hazardous underground cable being used for illicit supply of electricity was disconnected by KE teams. The power utility also urged the residents of Karachi to abstain from such malpractices and shift to legal and safe metered connections. During the crackdown, KE teams reportedly faced resistance from locals of the areas backed by those involved in illegal connections. According to the KE, further raids are expected in coming days.
The power utility also issued the warning that the unauthorised use of the KE infrastructure for illegal power supply posed a severe public-safety hazard as it might causes serious accidents in the monsoon season.
