Strict laws

The Imran Khan-led government presented the federal budget last week. It was shocking to see that it introduced strict laws that authorise a tax officer to arrest a taxpayer. The authorities must realise that taxpayers are already contributing towards the country’s economic growth as they pay their taxes on time. Instead of going after taxpayers, the government should force non-filers to file their tax returns. This is the correct way to meet the tax target set for the current fiscal year.

The higher authorities should look into this matter on an urgent basis.
