Speakers lay emphasis on medical on research

PESHAWAR: Speakers at the 100the meeting of the Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB) of Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar on Tuesday laid stress on the medical research to provide solutions to the health issues.

The meeting was presided by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Ziaul Haq and attended by the three former vice-chancellors, Prof Muhammad Hafizullah, Prof. Muhammad Daud Khan and Prof. Arshad Javaid as chief guests and Dr Shaheen Afridi, from the Health Department as the guest of honour.

Dr Ziaul Haq reiterated the strong emphasis of the university on research which he said was aimed at providing solutions to health problems.

Dr Hafizullah pointed out that the university shall now take a leading role in shaping healthcare delivery in the process through timely and robust data generation.

Dr Daud Khan urged the faculty to keep abreast with the latest developments to be at the cutting edge of research.

Dr. Shaheen Afridi highlighted the importance of local evidence generation to bring innovation in the health service delivery and make these services more effective.

Earlier, Dr Zohaib Khan, director, office of research, innovation, and commercialization, apprised the participants of the achievements of the ASRB and the university in terms of the research output.

He said the ASRB in just a short span of nine years had been able to have 100 meetings and evaluated over 1400 research proposals.

The participants were told that the university had more than 500 million as annual research budget and the quality of research done by its faculty members had led to the KMU being labelled as “Research Intensive” by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
