Lumberdari grants restored

LAHORE:The Punjab government has decided to allot 456,000 acres of state land to 38,000 Lumberdars across the province, The News has learnt.

According to sources, 38,000 Lumberdars will be restored and each will be allotted 12 acres of land. The provincial minister for agriculture directed the authority concerned to issue orders for allotting 12 acre land to each Lumberdar across the province.

Lumberdari System has been reinvigorated by restoring Lumberdari grants. Lamberdars serve 22 important functions under law like assistance in state land retrieval, ensuring enrolement in schools, help in disaster management, etc.

Regarding this, a meeting of Lumberdar's Association Punjab was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister Agriculture and Lumberdars Association Punjab President Syed Hussain Jahanian Gerdezi at Civil Secretariat on Tuesday. Provincial Minister for Culture and Colonies Khayal Ahmad Kastro, MPA Adil Pervaiz Gujjar and SMBR Punjab Babar Hayat also participated in the meeting. The provincial minister for agriculture said that effective role of Lumberdars had been realised for the assistance of government and the general public; therefore, institutionalisation is under process in the regard. It is important to activate the Lumberdars for the transfer and division of inherited lands.

The services of Lumberdars could be hired for corona vaccination, polio vaccination and to maintain peace in Muharram in remote areas. The role of Lumberdars is very important in digital Abiyana recoveries, in running the system of Gardwari and collection of agriculture tax. The minister said permission might be granted for fee removal of honorary weapon licence for 12 bore pistol to every Lumberdar for the assurance of security of their lives and properties.

He said the conditions of 50 numbers of inheritance and 50 qualification numbers might be fixed regarding their recruitment. Provincial Minister for Culture and Colonies Khayal Ahmad Kastro said Prime Minister Imran Khan would meet with Lumberdars shortly and resolve their problems. SMBR Punjab Babar Hayat Tarar said 5,000 Patwaris would be recruited in Punjab Revenue Department.
