Covid-19 claims 56 more lives in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The national tally on Sunday of total active COVID-19 cases was recorded 42,290 with 1,239 more people tested positive for the deadly virus and 1,610 recovering from the disease during the last 24 hours.Fifty-six corona patients died during past 24 hours, 52 of whom were under treatment in the hospitals and four out of the hospitals perished in their respective quarantines or homes, according to latest update issued by the National command and Operation Centre (NCOC).

During the past 24 hours, most of the deaths occurred in the Punjab followed by Sindh. Out of the total 56 deaths, 22 of them were on ventilators. As many as 2,661 corona infected patients were under treatment in critical care in various corona dedicated healthcare facilities. The National corona positivity ratio during past 24 hours was recorded 3.4 percent.

Maximum ventilators were occupied in Peshawar with 20 percent, Lahore and Bahawalpur 24 percent, and Multan 45 percent. Maximum oxygen beds were occupied in Gilgit with 30 percent, Abbottabad 30 percent, Karachi and Multan 26 percent. Around 329 ventilators were occupied elsewhere in the country, while no COVID affected person was on ventilator in Balochistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

Some 36,368 tests were conducted across the country on Friday, including 12,376 in Sindh, 9,246 in Punjab, 9,678 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 3,226 in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), 1,030 in Balochistan, 382 in GB, and 430 in AJK. Around 877,191 people have recovered from the disease so far across Pakistan making it a significant count with over 90 percent recovery ratio of the affected patients.

Since the pandemic outbreak, a total of 941,170 cases were detected that also included the perished, recovered and under treatment COVID-19 patients so far, including 19,756 in AJK, 26,201 in Balochistan, 5,707 in GB, 82,099 in ICT, 135,877 in KP, 343,926 in Punjab and 327,604 in Sindh. About 21,689 deaths were recorded in the country since the eruption of the contagion.

A total of 13,818,036 corona tests have been conducted so far, while 639 hospitals are equipped with COVID facilities. Some 2,891 corona patients were admitted in hospitals across the country.
