Sindh govt to observe Youm-e-Dua today for ending water crisis

June 11, 2021

The Sindh government has announced it will observe ‘Youm-e-Dua’ today all over the province on the issue of the acute water crisis persisting in the province.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Irrigation Minister Sohail Anwar Khan Siyal said special events would be held to pray for ending the persisting water crisis in the province. These events will be held at places of worship and religious shrines in Sindh.

He appealed to the public and Ulema to especially pray for an end of the water crisis in Karachi. He said the public had become highly dejected due to the ill-advised policies of the federal government in this regard.

Siyal said the people had been facing immense problems due to the “illogical policies of the federal government” in the water sector. He said the Sindh government had to face great hardships to get the due share of irrigation water for the province.

The irrigation minister said the masses from Karachi to Kashmore should especially pray for the resolution of the continuing water crisis in the province. He said all the special events to pray for ending the water crisis would be held in accordance with the standard operating procedures being implemented against the spread of the coronavirus infection.

Meanwhile, PPP Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro demanded of the federal government to remove the incumbent chairman of the Indus River System Authority for his failure to ensure judicious distribution of river water among the provinces. He said the leaders and followers of the PPP would organise special Dua events in every district of the province.
