PESHAWAR: Jamil Ahmad, director, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), presented a copy of the report titled “Inclusive Wealth of Pakistan: the case of investing in Natural Capital and Restoration” to Prime Minister Imran Khan recently.
The special UNEP report was released on June 5. Jamil Ahmad is based in the US and is working as the UNEP director. He originally belongs to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and is known as an expert on issues concerning climate change. He has been regularly delivering lectures at reputed forums and writing articles on climate change.
A press release said the Prime Minister pledged to accelerate efforts for a pollution free and environmentally protected Pakistan.
The prime minister on the occasion planted a sapling in the Haripur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This was the billionth tree in the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami project of his government to restore degraded lands and ecosystems.
Earlier, the prime minister was briefed about the UNEP report by Malik Amin Aslam, his special adviser on climate change. Pakistan was Global Host for World Environment Day 2021. The day is marked on June 5 every year under the auspices of UNEP in collaboration with the global host country and others to raise awareness and propel action on protection of environment and conservation of nature. The UNEP also supports action by producing scientific and analytical reports to facilitate informed decision-making by governments.
