Islamabad:The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration has launched a ‘Gift Plant Campaign’ to make awareness among the general public about need to enhance green cover for safer and green Pakistan.

According to the details, the campaign would become part of the efforts being made at the national level through ambitious initiatives such as Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Project and Clean Green Pakistan.

The objective of the campaign is to motivate people to make capital city greener, and inspire communities, businesses, organizations and the civil society to come together for this joint cause that can help protect natural environment.

The campaign will consist of a series of ‘Green Days’ at the various institutes during which top-notch environmentalists and professionals will visit the campuses to engage students in meaningful dialogue about promoting culture of exchanging and planting trees among the people.

Irshad Ahmad, a student of environmental sciences, said “Why not dedicate your tree to someone special? It could be a unique gift, a way to make someone’s birthday that bit more special, or a lasting way to remember a loved one.”

The ICT Administration also launched ‘Go Green’ campaign last year and planted a million trees in coordination with Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, non-governmental organisations, environmentalists and people from different walks of life.

Islamabad is the city that has been developed on the concept of green city. Now it has been included in the list of green capitals of the world.

Director General ICT Administration Syeda Shafaq Hashmi in her message urged the people to gift plants to one another that would create a culture of planting, preserving and protecting trees for the sake of the environment. She said that ICT has been making all-out efforts to plant trees for which it has launched various campaigns in coordination with the private sector in last many years.
