Muggers gun down estate agent, injure head constable

An estate agent was gunned down and a police head constable wounded by muggers in separate areas on Monday, while another firing incident left a person injured, claimed police

officials.

The Sachal police said Shahbaz Shabbir, 35, and his wife were returning home after visiting their relatives when an armed man on a motorbike forced him to stop his car near Safoora Chowrangi.

Officials said the lone suspect snatched the victims’ mobile phones and rings, but sensing resistance on the part of Shabbir, the mugger shot him twice. They said he was taken to a private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, adding that his body was then taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for an autopsy. Police said they recovered two empty shells of a 9mm pistol from the crime scene. They said the deceased was a resident of Karimabad and worked as an estate agent in DHA.

Cop injured

The SITE Superhighway police said Malikullah Yar, 54, was wounded in the Ahsanabad area, adding that the injured is a head constable with the Sindh police and posted at the Central Police Office.

The cop said in his initial statement that he had just left home for duty when unidentified persons shot him for resisting their attempt to rob him. In another firing incident, Mudassir Abdur Rasheed, 22, was injured in Mehran Town, according to the Korangi Industrial Area police, who said the victim was taken to the JPMC.

Man held for beating ex-wife

A man was arrested for beating his ex-wife in Malir on Monday. Police took action after a video of the incident went viral on social media. The clipped showed the man badly torturing a woman on a road in Rehri Goth.

The woman was the former wife of the arrested suspect, Hussain. He told police that his ex-wife was a drug addict and he was beating the woman to stop her from taking drugs. A case has been registered while an investigation is under way.
