MANSEHRA: Around 600 families settled in Atlar village of Torghar district are facing a shortage of potable water and other civic amenities.

“The village entirely built of mud-houses is without all sorts of civic services and facilities and our women fetch water on their heads after walking miles in a difficult mountainous terrain,” stated Abdul Waris, a local resident.

This village, situated on a hilltop in Torghar district headquarters Judbah, is without electricity, roads, schools, health and other basic facilities. “The families from this village have rapidly been migrating to Karachi but those still living here are being denied the basic services and facilities by the district administration and provincial government,” Waris said.

Another resident, Malkaay Khan, said the district and tehsil administrations have been holding open public forums across Torghar but their village was inaccessible for the deputy commissioner and assistant commissioner and other government machinery. “The local MPA Laiq Mohammad Khan visited this area and promised roads, schools, health and potable water facilities during the 2018 general elections canvassing, but he never came back here after becoming member of the assembly,” said Khan. He said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government claims much of its achievements in the health and education sectors, but it didn’t do anything substantial for locals.
