52 more die from corona in Punjab

LAHORE:Around 52 patients died from COVID-19 while another 401 new cases were confirmed in Punjab province during the last 24 hours. Of these 52 deaths, 17 deaths were reported from District Lahore alone, bringing the total number of COVID-related deaths to 4,136 in the provincial metropolis alone.

According to report issued by Primary and Secondary Healthcare (P&SH) Department Punjab on Friday, the death toll reached 10,184 in Punjab, while confirmed cases became 341,390 in the province.

Around 21,908 tests were conducted during the last 24 hours raising the number of total tests to 5,232,385 in the province while 315,234 corona patients have recovered in the province so far.

7,566 beds reserved: Secretary Specialised Healthcare Punjab Nabeel Ahmed Awan has said that 7,566 beds are reserved in all government hospitals for Covid-19 patients, out of which 6,058 beds are unoccupied.

According to a handout, he said that 1,640 beds were reserved in government hospitals of the provincial metropolis of which 1,286 beds were vacant. He said that in view of the surging corona pandemic, the department had arranged 3,354 beds in isolation wards of all government hospitals in the province out of which 2,917 beds were vacant. He said that the health department had arranged 789 ventilators for corona patients in all hospitals of the provincial government, of which 257 ventilators were under use while 532 were unoccupied. Around 284 ventilators were reserved in Lahore hospitals, of which 101 were occupied and 183 ventilators were vacant, said Nabeel Awan.

Vaccination at GCU, PU: Special Coronavirus Vaccination Centres have been set up at the Government College University (GCU) and the Punjab University. Speaking on the occasion at GCU, Vice-Chancellor Prof Asghar Zaidi hoped that the GCU Lahore would achieve the target of 100 percent vaccination of its employees by June 7, 2021. He said almost 2000 employees of GCU would be vaccinated at the camp besides students. He said the students aged over 30 walked in and vaccinated immediately, however the younger students should register themselves by sending their CNIC number to 1166.

In Punjab University, the vaccination centre has been set up at Student Teacher Centre. The vaccination centre would start working from June 5, 2021 and would work from 8am to 8pm without any break to facilitate the visitors. In this regard, PU Registrar Dr Khalid Khan has issued a notification asking teachers, students and staff and their families to get vaccinated as per the instructions of the government.

LBISE: On the direction of Dr Mirza Habib Ali, Chairman Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore, special arrangements have been made for COVID-19 vaccination for the board’s employees on Saturday (today).

The arrangements have been made by the Punjab Health Department under which all board employees are scheduled to be vaccinated from 11am onwards today (Saturday). Controller Prof Nasir Jamil and Secretary Prof Awais Saleem Humayun will also be present on the occasion.
