Rawalpindi
The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has decided to expedite its campaign for recovery of outstanding water tariff amount from domestic and commercial consumers in order to achieve its revenue collection target.
The decision to this effect was taken in a meeting chaired by Wasa Managing Director Raja Shaukat Mahmood here on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by Director Revenue Mohammad Abdullah Qamar and deputy directors of revenue Chaudhry Mohammad Safdar and Rana Shams ur Rehman besides revenue inspectors.
The managing director, after the briefing, directed the directors to intensify the ongoing campaign of recovery from water tariff defaulters and action should be taken against those consumers who have installed illegal water connections.
Director Abdullah Qamar, told the participants of the meeting that an amount of more than Rs10 million is to be recovered from defaulters. Besides this, 53 challans have been made and action against 12 citizens has been taken as they had installed water motors illegally in their residences. Similarly, the recovery department has also registered a case against a defaulter.
The cases of Noori Market near Glass Factory also came under discussion in the meeting.
Deputy Director Revenue Shams ur Rehman informed that over 15 shopkeepers of Noori Market have not paid their water bills since 1998 which amounts to Rs528,861. Wasa had issued numerous notices to the defaulters asking them to clear their dues but till now the shopkeepers have failed to give any positive response. As a result, Wasa has disconnected water connection of Noori Market and their water motors have also been impounded.
While appreciating the efforts of the revenue officials, Raja Shaukat directed them to continue their campaign without any fear and pressure of any influential consumer.
The managing director also directed the officials to carry out an operation against those citizens who have installed illegal water connections.
The managing director thanked the local parliamentarians and police personnel for extending full cooperation to Wasa in its drive against defaulters and violators.
