Zoo body asked to buy new animals
LAHORE
Punjab Forests, Wildlife and Fisheries Minister Muhammad Asif has directed the zoo committee to purchase new animals and complete pairs of animals in Lahore Zoo and Lahore Safari Zoo Park within 15 days so that the process of purchase could be completed at the earliest and maximum recreational facilities provided to the people.
He said this while chairing a 12-member committee set up by the CM for reviewing the matters of zoo on Tuesday. Punjab Minister for Zakat and Ushr Malik Nadeem Kamran, MNA Afzal Khokhar, MPA Saira Iftikhar, Secretary Forests, Wildlife & Fisheries Jahanzeb Khan, Vice Chancellor University of Animal Sciences, Director General Wildlife Khalid Ayaz Khan, Chief Game Warden Punjab Shah Rukh Butt, Managing Director Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab, Director Lahore Zoo and Zoo Management expert were present.
Malik Nadeem Kamran and Asif Bha Awan stressed the officials of the departments to maximum focus on the scheme Adopt A Animal and online adoption should be promoted. They stressed the need of setting up marketing department in Lahore Zoo and telemarketing should be done for getting attention of school children in this regard. They said the souvenir shops containing animals photographs should be set up in Lahore Zoo and Lahore Safari Zoo Park. They stressed the officials of the departments that under a coordinated strategy, the scope of wildlife parks should be extended to all divisions of the province in the first phase and in the second phase its scope be extended to district level. They said that existing parks should be upgraded so that equal recreational opportunities could be available to all visitors.
