KARACHI: Delay in grounding of containers at the Qasim International Container Terminal (QICT) has caused a pileup of export consignments at the port, sources said on Tuesday.
The sources said export containers were not grounded for the last 4 to 5 days, which disturbed uploading on the scheduled vessels.
The delays were attributed to shortage of scanner, which was to be installed by the terminal but still it was not available.
Nadeem Kamil, General Secretary at Karachi Customs Agents Association (KCAA) said the association is taking the situation very seriously and has written letter to the management of QICT to resolve the issues being faced by traders on priority basis. Kamil said the exporters/traders are bearing financial losses in shape of demmurage, container detention charges and others due to the prevailing situation.
He urged the concerned authorities to resolve the issues without delay to avert losses to the trade and industry.
