In order to decide the plea of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Amir Khan who sought permission to leave for Dubai, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Saturday ordered the Investigation Officer (IO) to submit report on the case till December 23.

Khan’s counsel had earlier argued that the MQM leader had left for performing Hajj and had returned to the country. The counsel said Khan attended his court hearings diligently and followed the directives of the trial court.

The attorney for Khan also rejected the stance of the law officer of Rangers that Khan could settle in Dubai.

The court was informed that before too Khan had obtained all due permissions form the interior minister and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and all the necessary details about his travel itinerary and children’s passports had been presented before the court.

The court then deferred the matter till December 23 and directed the IO to submit a report on the case.

The MQM leader Amir Khan is on bail in the case of alleged instigation of terrorism and provision of shelter to terrorists.

The court has forbade the accused from leaving the country without its permission.

Amir Khan along with dozens of MQM workers was arrested by the Rangers on March 11 when the party headquarters Nine-Zero and its adjoining areas were raided.

The leader was later produced before the anti-terrorism court by Rangers personnel who also presented an apprehension order empowering the paramilitary agency to arrest any suspect under Section 11-EEEE of the Pakistan Protection Act under 90-day detention.

Khan was released by the Rangers and given in the custody of Azizabad police where a case was registered against him for alleged provision of shelter and assistance to criminals.

His attorneys have moved an application stating that being a qualified person Khan deserved to be allowed to stay in ‘B-class’ prison and the request was granted.  Later on, he was granted bail against a surety of Rs1 million.
