Killer gets life term

TOBA TEK SINGH: Pirmahal Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Azfar Khan awarded life imprisonment with Rs 200,000 fine to Shakil of Arrouti in a murder case.

The court, however, acquitted 17 co-accused in the case, giving them the benefit of the doubt. The case was registered in 2012 against 18 persons on the charge of killing Muhammad Ahmad of Chak 752/GB.

TWO INJURED: Two scrap dealers were shot at and injured over a petty dispute at Gojra.

Nawaz and his accomplices exchanged harsh words over the rate of scrap with Irfan and Nauman, owners of a scrap shop on Samundri Bypass Road, on Tuesday night. Later, Nawaz and his accomplices opened fire. As a result, Irfan and Nauman sustained injuries. The City police have registered a case and arrested Nawaz. Raids were being conducted to arrest other accused.

10 BOOKED: The police have registered cases against owners of 10 private sugarcane purchase centres at Kamalia.

Talking to journalists, the assistant commissioner said the accused were purchasing sugarcane from growers at Rs 150 instead of the government’s fixed rate of Rs 180 per 40/kg.

THEFT: Thieves took away batteries worth over Rs 200,000 from a telephone exchange on Chichawatni Toad at Kamalia on Tuesday night. The City police have registered a case on the complaint of technician Muhammad Tanveer.
