KHAIRPUR/LARKANA: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that the Rangers “are with us, and they will remain with us in the future as well” and that the tendency to create a controversy over the matter of granting extension to their powers should be avoided.

He said that a resolution in this regard will be presented before the Sindh Assembly on Monday (today).

“We’ll see whether the MQM supports the Rangers’ powers or not,” the chief minister said.

He said that it was unfortunate that Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar overlooked the sacrifices rendered by the police in Sindh during the Karachi operation. He said it was also wrong to talk about bringing a video and saving one person.

The chief minister said that whether it is Dr Asim or anyone else, nobody should be made a victim of injustice.

He was talking to the media at the Khairpur Gymkhana ahead of his assessment of the arrangements at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto for the eighth death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto.

Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that the matter of the Rangers posting in Sindh and granting them powers should not be made controversial.

He said that the Rangers have played a very important role in the restoration of peace. He said that his government wants the Rangers to do an even better job in maintaining peace and order.

The chief minister said that the police too have a very important role in maintaining peace.

Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that his government will meet all the requirements of the police to maintain peace in the interior of Sindh.

Meanwhile, according to a Larkana bureau report, the chief minister said that a delay of a day or two in granting powers to the Rangers in Sindh is not going to create any crisis.

He was talking to the media in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh before the meeting to assess the arrangements made for observing the eighth death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto.

He said that seeking the Sindh Assembly’s approval on the Rangers power is a constitutional requirement. The chief minister said that the FIA and NAB have unleashed “an assault on the institutions of Sindh”. He said that he has brought the matter to the attention of the prime minister and the interior minister.
