43 KMC graduates receive gold medals for outstanding performance

PESHAWAR: Forty-three graduates of the Khyber Medical College (KMC) Peshawar have received gold medals for outstanding performance during annual examinations of the medical college held in 2012 and 2013.

Twenty-three graduates of session 2012 and 20 others of session 2013 received the medals from Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan during convocation of the college held the other day.

Out of them, two students - Mamoonur Rashid and Saeed Ali — were given 11 and 10 gold medals, respectively, for their getting excellent marks and obtaining top positions in different subjects.

Saeed Ali was declared the best graduate of session 2012 and Mamoonur Rashid of session 2013.

Saeed Ali belongs to Sherpao village in Charsadda district. He got first position in physiology, general pathology, microbiology and parasitology, community medicine, pathology and then topped third professional MBBS.

He also got first positions in surgery, obstetrics, ENT and then topped final professional MBBS.His father, Khursheed Ali received applause from the jam-packed auditorium of the University of University as he received all the gold medals of his brilliant son.

Talking to The News, Khursheed Ali said his son Saeed Ali has gone to the United States for specialisation in gastroenterology.

He said after passing his Secondary School Certificate examination from Peshawar Public School and College, Saeed Ali learnt the Holy Quran by heart that remarkably enhanced his memory and learning skills. “There had been some other good moments in my life, but today I feel proud of my son. I am so happy today as people in this hall openly praised his hard work and ability,” his father remarked.

He said he had brought his wife as well but felt it would have been good if his son was personally present and received these gold medals.

Another graduate of same session, Ambreen Subhan received six gold medals. Other graduates including Khudeeja Iffat, Tasneem Rajab, Sana Saadat Afridi, Ziauddin and Nadia Amin were also given gold medals for getting top positions in different subjects.

Mamoonur Rashid of session 2013 received 11 gold medals and was declared the best graduate of KMC session 2013.

He got highest marks in different subjects, topped second professional MBBS and secured top positions in community medicine, pathology, and then again topped third profession MBBS.

Mamoonur Rashid got first position in medicine, surgery, and then topped final professional MBBS and was thus declared KMC’s best graduate of session 2013.

Mamoonur Rashid belongs to Shakardara area of Kohat district. He hails from Khattak tribe.

Dr Mamoonur Rashid told The News said he was intending to get specialisation in intervention cardiology.

Another graduate, Ayesha Aziz of the same session received four gold medals. She secured first position in general pathology, microbiology and parasitology, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology and paediatrics.

Another female graduate, Sana Bint-e-Arshad got three gold medals for securing top positions in physiology, biochemistry and then topped first professional MBBS.

Two other graduates, Shehryar Khan and Wajid Iqbal also received gold medals for obtaining top positions in Islamiat and Pakistan studies and ophthalmology, respectively.
