HBL in deep trouble against WAPDA

KARACHI: Habib Bank Limited (HBL) were in deep trouble against WAPDA on the second day of their Group B four-day Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match at Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad on Tuesday.

HBL were bundled out for only 87 in their first innings after resuming at 5-2 in response to WAPDA’s score of 212.

Ramiz Aziz (12), Aftab Alam (11) and Abdur Rehman (11) were the only ones to manage double figures.

Left-arm pacer Waqas Maqsood was the main destroyer as he captured 6-31 in 18.2 overs. Naseer Akram got 4-25.

After gaining 125 runs lead, WAPDA were 109-2 in their second innings at stumps, with an overall lead of 234.

Ayaz Tasawar was batting on 50 in which he had struck four fours.

After losing Rafatullah Mohmand (8) early, Ayaz added 96 for the second wicket with opener Zahid Mansoor, who belted 39 with four fours.

Mohammad Naeem and Ammad Butt claimed one wicket each.

In another game of Group B here at National Stadium, FATA made a smart recovery when they reached 145-1 in their second innings after being forced to follow-on by Karachi Whites.

Fawad Khan (78*) and Khushdil Shah (35*) were at the crease.

Fawad smashed eight fours and four sixes in his 69-ball unfinished knock.

Earlier, Karachi Whites failed to capitalise on the solid start from their top order as they lost eight batsmen inside 31 runs and perished for 300 after resuming at 269-2.

Opener Jahid Ali (96) failed to add to his overnight score.

Medium pacer Irfanullah Shah produced his career-best figures of 6-76. Rizwan Wazir clinched 3-110.

FATA were bowled out for 141 with Rehan Afridi offering some resistance with 37. Mohammad Irfan (24), Mohammad Naeem (19) and Asif Afridi (19*) were the other main scorers. Adeel Malik (3-50) and Babar Rehman (3-56) bowled well.

Peshawar gained 41 runs lead when they scored 170 all out in their first innings in response to Islamabad’s 129 at Arbab Niaz Stadium, Peshawar.

Middle order batsman Musaddiq Ahmed made 96-ball 42 with four fours. Mehram Ibrahim scored 26.

Shehzad Azam picked 6-38. Hasan Ali and Muneer-ur-Rehman got two wickets each.

Islamabad were 96-1 in their second innings at stumps. Opener Afaq Rahim was batting on 49.

At Niaz Stadium, Hyderabad, Waqas Salim (185*) scored his maiden century to enable Lahore Blues to gain a huge lead as they reached 322-6 in their first innings in response to Hyderabad’s 122.

Waqas hit 23 fours and three sixes in his 360-ball undefeated knock.

Nasir Awais and Lal Kumar got two wickets each.

At Jinnah Stadium, Sialkot, National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) were in trouble at 84-6 in their second innings against Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) after conceding 38 runs lead. Pacer Mohammad Abbas got 5-29.

In response to NBP’s first innings total of 138, KRL were bowled out for 176 after resuming at 60-2.

Nauman Ali (55) and skipper Saeed Anwar Junior (40) were the leading scorers. Fast bowler Ahmed Jamal claimed 5-59.

Lahore Whites were bowled out for 201 after resuming their first innings at 113-6 against Rawalpindi at LCCA Ground, Lahore. Only 27.3 overs play was possible in the entire day because of heavy fog.

Test opener Sami Aslam, who was not out on 41, fell for 55 in which he hit ten fours. Asif Raza belted 48 with seven fours. Haseeb Azam claimed 6-74.

At Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) were reeling at 122-5 in their first innings in response to Port Qasim Authority’s (PQA) total of 283.

Only Usman Tariq (27) and Umar Amin (22) offered some resistance.

Waqar Ahmed got 2-26.

Earlier, PQA resumed their first innings at 243-8 and were all out after adding 40 runs to their overnight total.

Atif Ali, who was batting on 57, fell for fine 72 which had 11 fours. He added 96 runs for the ninth wicket with Waqar Ahmed, (48*) who hammered seven fours and a six.

Adnan Ghaus claimed 4-69, while left-arm spinner Zafar Gohar captured 3-23.

At Pindi Stadium, Rawalpindi, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) got lead when they reached 168-5 in response to United Bank Limited’s (UBL) first innings score of 132.

Imran Khalid (69*) and Hussain Talat (46) shared 75 for the fourth wicket. Test pacer Ehsan Adil claimed 4-51. Both the teams have already made it to the Super Eight stage.
