Army, Rangers take charge for LG polls

Five company commanders of Army and Rangers have taken over the charge as a quick response force along with magisterial powers for local government elections to be held in the district today(Saturday).
Four SP and 24 DSP level police officers of adjacent districts along with cops also reached here to help out local police in maintaining the law and order.
The District Returning Officer/DCO Nadir Chattha on Friday while giving media briefing has said that ballot papers, other required polling material and polling staff have been transported to polling stations under police security cover. The EDOs Education, Health and other departments have been directed to ensure provision of water, light and other necessities in the buildings where polling stations have been established. The DCO said that ROs, presiding officers and other polling staff had been warned that the ECP and the government had zero-tolerance regarding any kind of discrimination during polling duty. He said that anybody found guilty would not only be sent behind the bars but also dismissed from government service. He said that as per the permission of the ECP, polling station entry passes had been issued to election observers after getting undertaking that they would not carry camera inside polling stations and would not interfere in polling process.
Nadir Chattha said that no one would be allowed to enter polling station with mobile phone except presiding officer for liaison with RO and police force in-charge concerned. The code of conduct of ECP would be enforced and election control rooms had been established in DCO and DPO offices that would be functional round-the-clock for media and public information regarding results etc. He lauded the media role in discharging election duty in the district.
