The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday issued notices to deputy attorney general, deputy prosecutor general of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and others on a petition against keeping former managing director Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) in the Rangers’ sub-jail.
Petitioner Imrana Zuhair Siddiqui submitted in her petition that her spouse, Zuhair Siddiqui, was detained by the paramilitary force under the 90-day preventive detention law of the anti-terrorism act. He was later handed over to the NAB by its accountability court for two weeks.
However, the wife maintains that her husband was detained at the Meetha Ram hostel, which was declared a sub-jail by the government, under the Rangers custody instead of NAB’s lock-up.
The petitioner’s counsel Farooq H Naek submitted that detention of petitioner’s spouse in Meetha Ram hostel was unlawful and should be considered harassment.
The counsel worried that his client would be harassed and humiliated by the personnel in order to get a confessional statement of their liking.
The court was prayed to declare the detention of the petitioner’s spouse at the sub-jail illegal and direct the respondents to hand him over to the NAB’s custody.
