Extra toll tax being charged on Motorways

Ombudsman issues notice to NHA, FWO

ISLAMABAD: Federal Ombudsman has issued notice to National Highway authority (NHA) and Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) for charging extra toll tax from commuters. Notice was issued on a complaint received in the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat.
It was stated in the complaint that extra toll tax was being charged on Islamabad-Faisalabad Motorways whereas no such notification has been issued in this regard by the NHA.
During the hearing before Hafiz Ahsaan Ahmed Khokhar, senior adviser and grievance commissioner for Overseas Pakistanis at the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat, NHA representatives admitted that extra toll tax is being charged on Motorways by the subsidiary company of FWO from the commuters and no such notification of extra toll tax has been issued.
They further stated on query that toll tax could only be charged on Motorways until it is notified by the government and there is no such notification for increase in toll tax has been approved. After the hearing, Hafiz Ahsaan Ahmed directed the NHA to ensure that no such extra toll be collected from the commuters on Motorways until it is further notified by the federal government and compliance report in this regard be submitted to federal ombudsman secretariat in next three days.
The action of federal ombudsman secretariat will give relief to the hundreds of people who are daily traveling to the Motorways
