715 students conferred degrees at NUML convocation

The National University of Modern Languages (NUML) held its 3rd Convocation at Jinnah Convention Centre here on Friday. President of Pakistan and Chancellor of the University Mamnoon Hussain was the chief guest on the occasion, says a press release.
In the convocation, 715 students were conferred degrees. While 71 gold medals were awarded to graduates of different programmes. NUML Rector Major General (r) Zia-ud-Din Najam, Director General Brigadier (r) Azam Jamal, the vice chancellors of different universities, registrar, deans, directors, heads of departments and a large number of students along with their guests from all seven campuses of NUML attended the convocation.
Speaking on the occasion, President Mamnoon Hussain said that it is matter of great pleasure for him to attend the 3rd Convocation of NUML as the chief guest. He congratulated students, their parents and teachers on the successful completion of education and called upon students to adhere and promote Islamic traditions and cultural norms in their lives. He also stressed upon them not to emulate western values blindly. He advised parents and teachers to equip the young generation with high moral values, dedication to the national cause and motivate them to work for eradication of corruption. He hoped that all students who were about to enter practical life after completion of their education will leave no stone unturned for the progress and prosperity of the motherland.
Earlier, NUML Rector Major General (r) Zia-u-Din Najam, in his welcome address, thanked President Mamnoon Hussain for sparing time from his busy schedule to attend the convocation. He highlighted multifarious achievements of NUML over the years including the planned establishment of NUML International Centre of Education (NICE) in China under CPEC, which will be a unique institution of its kind ever established by any university of Pakistan in China. He also informed about a welfare project for poor students being started by NUML for their education and creation of job opportunities.
The rector said that as many as 25 languages are being taught in the university. He said that along with languages, NUML has established other departments like Engineering, Management Sciences, Social Sciences and Islamic Studies. NUML has 600 teachers out of which 105 are PhDs. He vowed to promote research culture in the university under the newly established Office of Research, Innovations and Commercialisation (NORIC).
