Folk puppet festival starts

Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop’s three days long annual Folk Puppet Festival started at the Rafi Peer Cultural Centre 1, green acre farm housing society 7km Raiwind road, on Friday morning.
The Folk Puppet Festival is the largest cultural event held in Pakistan and is dedicated to promote folk arts and crafts. Since its inception, the folk puppet festival has been instrumental in bringing the cultural heritage of Pakistan back to the mainstream. As always, the festival this year is also set to be a delightful amalgamation of music, puppetry, dance and crafts. This year Rafi Peer has invited puppeteers, including Bahadar Ali, Bashir Dhamali, Abdul Aziz, Abid Ali, Muhammad Jamil and Muhammad Bashir, to showcase their talent along with Pakistan National Council of Arts, Alhamra Puppet Theatre and Asghar Bahawalpuri. The objective of the festival is to promote performers and traditional folk art from all provinces of Pakistan, giving the artisans work opportunities and a chance to develop their technique and art form. Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop is a non-profit organisation actively promoting culture and art, both at home and abroad for over 37 years. More than 50 festivals celebrating art have been conducted, catering millions who have reveled in the acts of over 30,000 performers from all around the world, including Pakistan.
