WAH CANTT: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Saturday said the operation in Karachi will be expedited in the coming days.
Talking to the media in Wah Cantt, the minister stated that the government is ready to address the PPP and MQM’s reservations on the Karachi operation. He said the situation in the metropolis has changed a lot since the launch of the targeted action in 2013. He said the operation was launched after taking all the political parties into confidence.
The minister said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is interrogating the PPP leader Dr Asim Hussain and his fate will be decided as per the law. He said the Interior Ministry has received the Rangers’ investigation report and now NAB has launched a probe into the matter.
Nisar’s statement came three days after the Karachi Police registered a case against Dr Asim, a close aide of former president and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1999. The Interior Ministry has also put his name on the Exit Control List (ECL).
The former petroleum minister was arrested by the Sindh Rangers from the office of the Higher Education Commission in Clifton on August 26, 2015 on charges of corruption and his role in terror financing.
