One man was killed and five others injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast near a roadside stall in Lea Market, within the ambit of the Baghdadi police station in Lyari, on Wednesday.
According to SSP City Fida Hussain Janwari, the blast occurred at about 1:30pm near Doodh Mandi in Lea Market.
The deceased and the injured were immediately shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi whereas personnel of the bomb disposal squad (BDS) were called in.
According to the BDS report, the bomb was locally assembled and weighed about half a kilogram.
Considering the impact of the explosion, an official of the squad claimed the bomb was planted near a roadside stall.
The deceased was identified as sixty-year-old Muhammad Saleem while the injured included Zahid, 20, Najeeb, 35, Rehan, 15, Sagheer, 20 and Waqar, 25.
This was the third blast to have occurred within the Lyari area over a period of two weeks. The previous two were stated to be grenade attacks, at a water pumping station and at a liquor store respectively.
The first blast resulted in injuries to five people while four people were injured in the second blast.
