Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Sajid Kiani on Tuesday reviewed security arrangements for the first-ever local government elections in the capital to ensure complete implementation of the code of ethics of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The meeting, presided over by him, was attended among others by SP Industrial Area Yasir Afridi, returning officer, deputy returning officer, DSPs Industrial Area and Shams Colony and other police officials. The meeting reviewed overall security arrangements. SSP (Operations) Sajid Kiani briefed policemen on the maintenance of effective security on the polling day. He said that there would be complete ban on display of weapons on the polling day. He directed all police officials to conduct security survey in their respective areas and submit report about sensitive polling stations so that extra security may be deployed there. He said that elections would be held in conducive environment as per code of ethics of the ECP. He directed police to enhance patrolling during the canvassing campaign by the candidates so that no untoward incident could occur. He said that Pakistan is a peaceful democratic country and conducive environment will be ensured on the occasion of LG elections. "There will be a positive message in the country through peaceful elections in the capital,” he said. Police will not spare anyone trying to disrupt the peaceful environment on the occasion,” SSP Sajid Kiani added.
Action against terrorists lauded
Muttahida Mashaikh Council Pakistan Secretary General Syed Nafeesul Hassan Bukhari has lauded the army for restoring peace in the country.
Addressing an annual public meeting of the council at Aiwan-e-Uch Sharif, Lahore, he said the army was fighting a war against terrorists for the security of the country with complete support of the people of Pakistan. He said the whole nation supported the Zarb-e-Azb operation which aimed to uproot terrorism, extremism and corruption. “The extraordinary success of the operation has made us a proud nation in the world,” he added. He said the Sufi-ism Council Pakistan was following the mission of “peace through Sufi-ism”. A collective prayer was also offered for the strength and unity of Muslims.
