The 23rd convocation ceremony of Military College of Signals (MCS) was held on Saturday. Higher Education Commission Chairman Professor Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed graced the occasion as chief guest, says a press release.
While addressing on the occasion, the chief guest appreciated the efforts of the faculty and management of MCS for holding such an auspicious event of the next generation of talented engineers of the country. He stressed upon urgent need to produce trained scientists and technologists. He also emphasised that the challenge is to transform our tertiary educational institutions into centres of excellence, with high standards of teaching and a culture of sustained learning.
Addressing the graduates, NUST Rector Engineer Muhammad Asghar, HI said that today is a special and exciting day for our graduating students as they are now stepping into the practical professional life which is full of challenges but I hope that these young engineers will be successful due to the skills they have learnt from this institution.
MCS Commandant, Major General Amjad Ahmed Butt, in his welcome address, presented the college report, highlighting the progress in academic and research excellence the college has achieved over the last six decades.
Postgraduate degrees were conferred on 74 students in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering and Information Security. President’s Gold Medals were awarded to Danish Ilyas, Major Ubaid Ur Rehman Khan, Irum Abdur Rehman, Umar Ghafoor, Khawar Mehmood, Major Muhammad Sharjeel Zareen and Wajiha Habib.
Undergraduate degrees were conferred on 424 students in Electrical (Telecom) and Software Engineering. President’s Gold Medals were awarded to Sundas Nayab Khalil, Aqsa Hasan Siddiqui, Captain Jamal Ahmed and Captain Wajahat Sultan. Chief of Army Staff’s gold medals were received by Captain Aftab Hussain, Captain Muhammad Qasim, Capt Jamal Ahmed and Captain Wajahat Sultan. Rector’s Gold Medals were awarded to Hameer Abbasi, Aqsa Hasan Siddiqi, Captain Syed Irfan Tasneem and Hasan Iqbal. Chancellor’s Silver Medals were awarded to Aabgeenay Khan, Wardah Sarmad, Captain Syed Irfan Tasneem and Usama Zafar for their outstanding performances in their respective degree projects.
Major General Sohail Abbas Zaidi HI(M), Signal Officer in Chief, faculty members, educationists and a large number of students were also present during the ceremony.
