CHARSADDA: In what appeared to be an incident of targetted killing, unidentified motorcyclists shot dead two traffic cops near a police post in Utmanzai bazaar in the limits of the City Police Station, officials said.
They said that Head Constable Bashir and Constable Naseer were on duty in Utmanzai bazaar when the assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire, leaving one of them dead and the other critically wounded.
The accused fled the scene after staging the attack. The officials said that Naseer died on the spot while Bashir was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Charsadda, wherefrom he was referred to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar due to his critical condition, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Alleged killer of SP arrested in Peshawar: The police claimed to have arrested an alleged killer of the superintendent of police of Elite Force Bannu here on Friday.
An official communiqué said that acting on a tip-off, personnel of the Special Police Unit raided a house in Haji Camp and arrested the accused identified as Israr Ahmed, a resident of Salim Khan Killay in Swabi district. They also recovered arm and a handgrenade from him.
It was learnt that the accused had killed SP of Elite Force Bannu, Khairul Haseeb, when he along with his son was coming out of a local mosque in Swabi district after offering Eidul Fitr prayer this year.
