FAISALABAD: A memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the fields of education and research between the Seluck University, Turkey, and the University of Agriculture Faisalabad was signed in a meeting here.
Speaking on the occasion, Seluck University Vice-President Dr M Musa Ozcan said that the universities would conduct research to ensure the food security. He called for expediting efforts for the cause of food security as the world population was increasing at a large pace. He said that the people were moving towards cities and the agricultural lands were being turned into the residential colonies. He called for promoting the family farming to increase the income of farmers. He said that model of cooperate farming could be adopted for increasing agricultural productivity.
UAF Vice-Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that the university was enjoying good relations with the Turkish institutions and also working with the TIKA in a poverty alleviation programme in rural areas of the country. He said that the rural development was prerequisite to ensure the food security and to alleviate the poverty from the region.
He said that the collaboration would help to learn from each other experiences. Amid raising population, it was a challenge for the agricultural scientists, experts and farming community to feed the increasing population, he added.
