The first phase of the local bodies elections in Punjab had a mixed bag of results that should be eye opener for both the PML-N and the PTI and a lesson for the PPP which won only in Lalamusa because of an individual party activist who still enjoys credibility. Unlike Sindh, voters in Punjab prove that nothing is constant in politics and they cannot be taken for granted. The local bodies results have shown that people are desperately looking for a change in the status quo. Unfortunately, the PTI has failed to exploit this situation to its advantage. Between now and 2018, there is still time for any political party to regain lost ground, or for a new alternative to emerge, but one thing is very clear: there is no room for the likes of Pervez Musharraf and his accomplices from Gujrat nor for ‘gaddi nasheens’ of southern Punjab and Sindh to fool people once again.
