The Oxford University Press and The Karachi Council on Foreign Relations have organised the launch of ‘Neither a Hawk Nor a Dove’ authored by former Foreign Minister of Pakistan Mian Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, at a local hotel in Karachi on Monday (today).
Former president General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf who played a pivotal role in the promotion of peace between India and Pakistan during his tenure will address the audience on the occasion. In addition to the author, other speakers include Indian former Minister of External Affairs Mr Salman Khurshid, Mr Mani Shankar Aiyar, a well-known figure in Karachi from his days as India’s first Consul General in that city who later rose to become India’s Petroleum Minister, and Head of The Observer Research Foundation Mr Sudheendra Kulkarni.
The book launch in India earlier this month was attended by the major personalities involved in what has been described as the most productive peace process (2004-2007) between the two countries since independence. These include former Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and former Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the BJP, L K Advani, who had visited Pakistan on Kasuri’s invitation.
It was during that visit that Kasuri first met Kulkarni; who had accompanied L K Advani. Interestingly, L K Advani got into trouble in India for his positive remarks about Quaid-e-Azam Muhamamd Ali Jinnah when he visited the mausoleum of the Quaid and as a result, had to resign as the leader of the BJP in the Lok Sabha.
Kasuri’s book launches in Delhi, Kasauli, Chandigarh and Mumbai were attended by a cross-section of prominent Indian politicians, diplomats, generals, academics, film stars and media personalities.
