ISLAMABAD: The Grievance Redressal Committee, formed as per the agreement between the government and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) regarding the Karachi operation, will carry out its proceedings in an open court.
The committee chairman Justice (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid told The News that the committee’s meetings will be open and accessible to the media. A secret meeting will be held only in unavoidable situations.
The committee’s first meeting will be scheduled as per convenience of its members. The committee will complete its task in 90 days. Justice (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid was proposed to head the committee both by the government and the MQM. Earlier, both the government and the opposition had proposed him to become the chief election commissioner.
He was accessed to investigate the failure of the Nandipur power project but he excused himself due to his old age. He had said his services should be hired to improve the court system. He said about 50 judges are sitting idle in Karachi and the government should put them to work.
