The Sindh president of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid, Haleem Adil Shaikh, expressed grave concern over the growing incidents of violation of children’s rights and has demanded strict action against those involved in kidnapping of children in the province.
Addressing a press conference at the PML-Q Secretariat in Karachi on Thursday with the three girls kidnapped and recovered from Bhangoria Goth with their families, he said his party had played a major role in the recovery of kidnapped girls and appreciated the positive role of media to highlight the sensitive issue.
He said the innocent girls were kidnapped from Bhangoria Goth within the remit of Azizabad police station on September 7, 2015. He said after the party came to know about the kidnappings of nine-year-old Shabina, 10-year-old Soorat and 11-year-old Nagina its office bearers met with their parents and launched a powerful media campaign for their recovery.
Also speaking at the press conference, the recovered girls told the media that they used to fetch drinking water from nearby. They said one day, a Saddam Jagrani and his friend kidnapped them and shifted them to an unknown location. They said they were kept in several places during their detention and also met others who were being held captive in a similar way. The girls claimed they were abused, tortured and harassed before being forced into marriages.
Ramzan, an uncle of the girls, said their area faced acute shortage of drinking water and the girls were also kidnapped for it. He said the girls had gone to fetch water where they were offered a drink with some intoxicants in them before they were taken to the kutcha area of Shikarpur.
Sheikh called on the government to ensure the recovery of other women and girls being held captive and take steps to check the growing incidents of kidnappings of children in Sindh.
