KP govt to launch digital economy programme

PESHAWAR: Declaring 2016 as ‘digital year,’ the Khyber Pakhtunkwa government has announced to launch a comprehensive digital economy programme in the province aimed at empowering the youth by creating maximum job opportunities in the field of information communication technology (ICT).
“The provincial government has planned to focus on linking youth to the growing number of technology-based and ICT-based job markets,” Minister for Science Technology and Information Technology Shahram Khan Tarakai told reporters here. The officials of the World Bank were also present on the occasion.
He said the plan would include investments in enhancing the skills of youth and emphasize support for young entrepreneurs to launch their own startups.The minister said the plan was an initiative of KP IT Board in collaboration with partners such as World Bank and Peshawar 2.0 to showcase KP as a hub for technology startups and ICT enabled jobs.
