LAHORE
Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Faisalabad Circle, Thursday arrested a serving Inspector of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and his accomplices on the charges of kidnapping for ransom.
The FIA team led by Faisalabad Circle head, Deputy Director Sajjad Mustafa Bajwa, arrested the accused Inspector of the IB named Rana Israr Munir who was deputed in the city for the past few months.
An FIA official told The News on Thursday that the accused Inspector along with his accomplices, including Muhammad Farooq, Mian Muhammad Anwar and two others had threatened one Rana Jamshed that the IB was holding an inquiry against him and he would have to face ‘consequences’ if he didn’t pay Rs10 million.
On being threatened, the official said, Jamshed gave Rs10 million to the accused party in a bank on September 23. Two members of the accused party accompanied Jamshed, who runs a web-based business, and remained there for four hours. After getting the agreed amount in a red suitcase, they left the bank and reached the house of Israr.
The ‘gang’, he said, then divided the amount wherein the IB official claimed 50 percent (Rs5 million) of the total amount and Mian Anwar, Rs1.7 lakh, Farooq, Rs09 lakh whereas Nadeem and Zia Butt shared Rs2.2 million. By then, the official claimed, FIA on a source report had started an inquiry into the issue.
To extract more money from Jamshed, the ‘gang’ again on October 13, 2015 kidnapped him from Faisalabad and this time demanded Rs150 million for the release.
Later in the day of October 13, the kidnappers released him in Lahore on a promise that he will hand over half of the total amount they were demanding from him on the next day i.e, October 14.
As the FIA was having a close eye on the whole thing by collecting evidences against the accused persons, including getting CCTV footage from the bank concerned, a team on October 14 raided a place and arrested Israr, Anwar and Farooq from the town. After registering a case against the accused persons under sections 109, 161, 365 PPC and 5 (2) 47 PCA, the FIA team managed to have recovered Rs7.6 million from their possession so far.
According to another FIA official, the remaining two accused persons would soon be arrested and remaining amount would also be recovered.
He said that a relevant court had also granted a five-day physical remand of the accused persons. It is further learnt that FIA has also launched an inquiry against Rana Jamshed, the victim person, to determine his business, he was running through web.
