PHC directs authorities to mull solution to traffic problems

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has asked the authorities concerned to chalk out mechanism for smooth flow of traffic in the city.
Hearing a petition about military checkposts and traffic congestion in the provincial capital, a two-member bench comprising of PHC Chief Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel and Justice Irshad Qaiser ordered submission of the report on the matter to the court.
The petitioner, Essa Khan, told the bench that people were facing problems due to the checkpoints in Peshawar Cantonment. He added that though a committee of traffic police officials and PHC Bar members had also been formed to resolve the issues of traffic and checkposts, it met on April 28 and could not hold any other meeting since then.
The court was also told that the Khyber Road outside the provincial assembly building was often overcrowded as the army personnel had set up a checkpost there. The chief justice directed the Additional Advocate General Qaiser Ali Shah to ensure that all stakeholders meet and find a solution to the traffic problems in Peshawar.
